Kathleen (Kathy) Hill serves as Project Coordinator for the John Glenn Scholars in Service-Learning. This project continues the leadership established by the National Commission on Service-Learning to advance research, policy, practice, and advocacy of service-learning in the United States. Kathy provides administrative oversight for efforts that recognize individuals whose scholarship efforts contribute to advancing the understanding of or adoption of service-learning, with specific emphasis on K-12 education. A key element of this project is dissemination of the Scholars’ service-learning research to a broad national audience via a paper series and related advisories. Kathy is a doctoral candidate in the School of Educational Policy and Leadership at Ohio State. In her dissertation study, she is exploring why faculty engage in community-based scholarship. Her scholarly interests fall within a leadership and social change framework, and she is specifically interested in how student engagement in service-learning influences various aspects of leadership development, social responsibility, and multicultural competence. Kathy is also interested in qualitative research methodology and recently instructed a graduate level qualitative inquiry course at Miami University. Over the course of the past 20 years, Kathy has served in a variety of student affairs roles at several institutions.
