| John
Glenn Scholars in Service-Learning Nomination
Process
The John Glenn Institute
seeks nominations for scholars whose work
is addressing gaps in service-learning research
as well as in insulated pockets not currently
part of the service-learning mainstream.
Areas of emphasis change from year to year
and reflect emergent issues and priorities.
Specific information regarding areas of
emphasis and nomination deadlines can be
obtained in the Call
for Scholars section of this website.
Recipients are recognized as a John Glenn
Scholar in Service-Learning and receive
a $1000 honorarium. Scholar selections are
featured on the John Glenn Institute website
(www.glenninstitute.org/glenn/scholars_index.asp)
and publicized on a national level with
specific attention focused on papers
submitted as part of the application
process. The John Glenn Institute uses knowledge
generated in Scholar papers to construct
1-2 page advisories tailored
to relevant groups and in formats that are
immediately accessible to practitioners,
policy makers, funders, media, and the general
public.
Selection Criteria
Faculty, students, administrators, colleagues,
and community partners may nominate individuals
for recognition relevant to a specific area
of emphasis. Individuals may also self-nominate.
Nominations should be made based upon the
following criteria:
1. Evidence of extensive engagement in scholarship
that advances or has the potential of advancing
the understanding of and adoption of service-learning.
2. Nominee’s knowledge and coverage
of the area of emphasis.
3. Significance of the paper topic (importance
and timeliness) and contribution to advancing
the understanding and implementation of
service-learning in K-12 education.
Nomination Requirements
a) One letter of nomination
that fully describes how the nominee meets
the criteria listed above.
b) The nominee’s curriculum vitae
or resume
c) A 2-3 paragraph biographical statement
d) One paper upon which the selection review
will be based (not to exceed 40 pages of
double-spaced, typewritten copy of a high
quality appropriate for publication in a
professional journal; APA style guidelines).
We encourage submittal of papers that are
new publications but also welcome papers
that may appear in other sources (reprint
permission required).
Individuals may be nominated
for more than one area of emphasis but may
only be selected one time as a John Glenn
Scholar in Service-Learning. In the case
of multiple nominations, papers must be
relevant to the area of emphasis.
